1. Front end is developed using MVP architecture as both the web-based application and desktop application needs to be developed. The MVP Architecture Pattern is used to build ASP.net applications. It refers to splitting up the responsibilities for gathering, displaying, and storing data from a web page into separate objects, such as, a Model object, a View object, and a Presenter object. A View is often an interface which is implemented by an ASP.net web page and a Model is a business object. The Presenter negotiates the transfer of data between the other two objects. 

The advantage of using a view as an interface is that it can be implemented by many different presentation models other than a web page, such as a Finesse page, a NUnit mock class, or a Windows application.

2. The second challenge is to support the ArcPad installed on a driver’s mobile phone and monitor the location of the vehicle and the driver. The ArcPad communicates over the GPRS with the vehicle server and the Vehicle server distinguishes between the data sent from the mobile application and vehicle unit device. The ArcPad sends the data in XML which is processed by the Vehicle server and in turn the Vehicle server sends the response in XML, which is interpreted by the ArcPad. These requests are driver’s next assignment. A pickup point is the shortest route and a map in ArcPad also encapsulates the geo fence area of particular vehicle.

3. The Vehicle server is also capable of reading the RFID signal and processing them.

Business Situation:

Client needed mobile-based standalone application that would facilitate clinical trials – a type of medical research that is conducted in phases by means of health specific questions, initially on a small scale and then in a larger context. Client required the application not only to allow designing of questions, but facilitate dynamic updations in the design as well.

Practical Situation:

A patient has been assigned a questionnaire for a particular form of disease, but the doctor diagnoses a new form of disease symptom in the patient. So a new questionnaire has to be designed for him. A new set of questionnaires is prepared by the administrator and it needs to be sent to the patient’s PDA.

Solution:

Since, the standalone application for designing questionnaires was to be built for mobile devices, it was implied that the dynamic updations in the questionnaires should be achieved remotely and automatically. Technically, it meant that the standalone application running on a Desktop machine should be able to synchronize with the application running on patient’s PDA.

Synchronization is the process of establishing consistency among data on remote sources and the continuous harmonization of the data over time. Synchronization refers to one of the two distinct, but related concepts, and they are:

• Synchronization of processes,
• Synchronization of data

In process synchronization, multiple processes are to join up, so as to reach an agreement or commit to a certain sequence of action. In data synchronization, multiple copies of a dataset are kept in coherence with one another, or to maintain data integrity. Process synchronization primitives are commonly used to implement data synchronization.

Q3 Technologies decided that a synchronization tool will be developed and installed on the server, which helps in the synchronization process; automatically copying changes back and forth. This tool will allow an incoming GPRS transmission to overwrite the application file with a new application. As a result, once an application build (containing questionnaires) is installed on the SD card of patient’s PDA, any changes made to the corresponding build on Desktop, will be updated on the SD card of the PDA. The SD card number and mobile number of the PDA will be used for synchronization purpose.

Apart from this, a few bugs are reported every now and then, and they need to be fixed dynamically. The big challenge is that most of these sites are live and running websites, and while fixing the issues or configuring a site, any existing functionality should not be broken.

In addition, the quality and speed of the development and maintenance tasks are major concerns as these sites are live portals and their criticality cannot be ignored.

Solution:

• Q3 Technologies realized that it was important to consider and maintain the quality and accuracy. The majority of tasks were to be done on the live sites so the Quality Control was deemed extremely important.
• The SharePoint technology experts at Q3 Technologies thoroughly studied the client requirements and investigated the various features provided by the application. The IT team was approached, and replicas of the sites to be managed were hosted at the local domain so that each issue could first get fixed at the corresponding replicated site.
• The site maintenance operation was planned so that a bug is first fixed on the replicated site, the Testing team performs the test cycle on the replicated site, and thereafter the development team directly integrates the fixed codes in the running site. After integrating the changes in the live portals, the testing team again performs the test cycle in the portal in order to ensure total quality.

For the Time Tracking tool, the database experts studied existing SQL database. During investigation, it was found that the database was not normalized and appropriate normalization of the database was done apart from adding new tables in order to match the requirements.

In the IT industry, documenting each and every SDLC process is universally considered as a good practice, but is seldom achieved in real-life. A major reason could be the fact that in the trade-off between quality software and quality documentation, it is always the latter one that has to lose the battle mostly because of the stringent deadlines and partly due to its second fiddle status. However, initial interaction with the client suggested that it was as much concerned about the documentation requirements as with the functional requirements of the software.

A large auto parts retailer wanted to consolidate its inventory details spread across various formats so that it could provide a single interface for searching and sale of items from its inventory.

Solution:

• An n-tier Java/J2EE architecture was developed by Q3 tech that was modular, highly scalable, and easy to maintain.
• A common data model and database schema was defined for parts details using advanced data modeling tools.

The sales mix coming from various channels changed suddenly with the new product offerings. There was a growing divide between front office and back office as orders increased significantly from the online and tele-sales channel.

The process assessment identified the need for an integrated system that cut across different departments and effectively supported business processes. The management team at the client was wary of both the cost and time frame required for a completely integrated system.

Phase I: Microsoft Dynamic’s Great Plains Implementation and integrated with the web based system. Upgrade of Commerce System to a Commerce Server based platform. Phase II: Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamic’s Great Plains with real-time integration via eConnect.

While both Phase I and Phase II were implemented under the estimated budget.

Phase II real-time eCommerce Integration: COM based integration was chosen for integration MS Commerce Server based eCommerce web site. Since Commerce Server is built using COM technology, COM based integration was preferred. Incoming integration was done for orders, customers and return requests.

Static graph is a graph of edges and nodes where each node represents the actor of the analysis and edges represents the relation between different actors. Length of the edge represents how closely the actors are connected. Dynamic graphs are a set of static graphs where information is displayed for different time spans i.e. user can know the time span during which actors were really active. As per the requirement, user should be able to drag the nodes and edges of the graphs across the panel. User should be able to process multiple datasets simultaneously. Multiple users and simultaneous analysis of datasets requires enhanced computational processing power and physical memory.
